I was born on August 19, 1984 in Goldsboro, NC. I resided in Seven Springs, NC during my childhood and teenage years. In August 2002, I moved to Greensboro, NC to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

[edit] Musical Career

A strong interest in music began as early as my childhood. My grandmother enrolled me in piano lessons, though I only completed a few lessons before losing interest. In the 6th grade, I took up trumpet in the school band. The next year my band instructor convinced me to switch to the French Horn, which I played up until my Junior or Senior year of High School. In High School, I opted out of performing with the marching band and found a place in the symphonic band. At age 16, I tried a hand at playing my grandmother's guitar and fell in love. I immediately began writing music at home while jamming with a friend. While my guitar skills were still at their most infantile, I would play drums at jam sessions, discovering a small aptitude there. At age 19, I performed a solo acoustic gig under the stage name S. Burns. Soon afterwards, I recruited Carlos Castellanos to play backup guitar. We played a small number of gigs together and released a collection of home demos entitled "S. Burns". Hometown friend and previous jam partner Matthew Jackson lended his drumming to two S. Burns shows. After a few more gigs at a duo, I became frustrated with our entire situation as a group. Luckily, I was contacted by Greensboro drummer Seth Oldham who had previously performed small percussion roles in the group Mudjunkie. He sent an email after spotting an online drummer wanted ad. In August 2004, S. Burns became a trio with the addition of Oldham behind the drums and Castellanos switching to bass. In February 2005, another collection of home demos, "Repellican", was released. Since the trio's inception, it has performed throughout its region and has briefly toured the Northeast USA. Currently the group is in negotiations with a local indie record label and planning an album. Both home demos include artwork done by High School chum Ian Curl. His artwork has also been used for merchandise and flyers.
