This page needs to be split, so that innocent people who come in from wikilinks know which form of backpacking they're supposed to be looking at, but I can't really figure out how to disambiguate it. How about Backpacking (wilderness) and Backpacking (urban)? -Smack 05:32 17 Jul 2003 (UTC)

I agree, have followed your suggestions, that make sense to me. Hopefully everybody agrees.

Should there not also be a definition for "backpacker" as a derogatory term for a certain type of hip-hop fan?

[edit] Disambig?

This disambig is not really disambiguating anything. Backpacking (wilderness) and Backpacking (travel) are not nearly different enough to have separate articles. Additionally, someone looking for backpacker (hip hop) will never even hit this page, mostly because they will no doubt search "backpackER". Look at what links here and there isn't a single hip hop article. The two top articles need to be merged into one article, and replace this disambig page.

As you can see in prior discussion on this page, the two backpacking articles were together before, but then I proposed that they be split, and someone else agreed. I will maintain that urban and wilderness backpacking are related but nonetheless different activities. --Smack (talk) 03:15, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Styles of travel

Like martial arts, there are many different styles and methods to exploring the planet. The Backpacking (disambiguation) page has been edited to reflect the diversity among the planet's best travellers - generally those that are familiar with the outdoor and survival skills needed to traverse the wilds of a united Western hemisphere.
