[edit] Counties
I've tried to wikify this, but it seems a little odd to say "only (my emphasis) Mezcal produced by the agave variety grown in the counties of ......" and then list about three dozen counties. Avalon 13:11, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Was it really illegal prior to 1992?
I remember visiting the "Bachomojaqui" Bacanora distillery in the early 1970s. It was pretty much a "moonshine" operation out in the boonies of Sonora near Huatobampo. My father bought several bottles of the bacanora produced there and I still have one of them. It sports a Mexican federal tax band over the cap. Seems rather odd that the Mexican government would tax something that was illegal.
