- Sing falls in head over heels with a girl that he does not know to be mentally retarded. The romance between the characters Rita Leeds and Michael Bluth in the U.S. television program, Arrested Development, is similar to this.
- The Ding Lik character first appeared as one of the main characters of the 1980 TVB mobster drama The Bund. It was in that series that Ray Lui originated the role of Ding Lik, which he reprised in God of Gamblers III. Notably, Chow Yun Fat, the star of the first God of Gamblers film, was also one of the primary stars of The Bund, and his Bund character Hui Man Keung is mentioned in God of Gamblers III, although the character does not appear in the film because he is dead.
