"Bachelorette" is a song by Björk, released as the second single from her 1997 album Homogenic. The song is emotionally charged and theatrical, following Homogenics theme of "beats and strings".
The surreal music video was directed by longtime Björk video collabotator, Michel Gondry. It features Björk as a best-selling author who first finds a book buried in her garden that begins to write itself. Following its guide, she travels to New York and during a meeting with a publishing house, falls in love with her publisher. She is successful with her book at first, but as their relationship deteriorates, the popularity of her book plummets. Some of the story takes place on stage in a play, and also in a play within a play. At one point, the audience turns into plants.
The single peaked at number twenty-one in the U.K.
"Bachelorette" is the third part of a song cycle that includes "Human Behaviour", "Isobel" and "Oceania". And as with the latter two its lyrics were written by Björk's longstanding co-writer Sjón.
The song is covered by Müslüm Gürses, a famous Turkish solist. It is also covered by the gothic artist Voltaire.
