From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baccalaureate School for Global Education (BSGE) is a high school located in Astoria, New York, in the New York City borough of Queens. It provides instruction to around 430 students, from grades 7 to 12. It has a diverse student body, with roughly equal proportions of white, African American, Hispanic, and Asian American students.

It is a relatively new school, having opened in 2002, and is notable as the first public school in New York where all students are considered candidates for the International Baccalaureate. BSGE is considered a hybrid school offering both the MYP (IB Middle Years Programme) and also the IB Diploma Programme. BSGE is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the Diploma Programme in 11th and 12th grades and is a Candidate School for the IB Middle Years Programme, which is for grades 7 to 10. It is in the process of becoming authorized as a Middle Years Programme in 2007.
