B.W. Stevenson

B.W. Stevenson (October 05, 1949 in Dallas, Texas - April 28, 1988, Born Lewis Charles Stevenson, "B.W." stood for "Buckwheat") was a country pop artist most famous for the top ten hit "My Maria" from 1973 (later covered by country duo Brooks & Dunn). Stevenson had several other minor chart singles including A Little Bit of Understanding and the original version of Shambala (song), which hit the top ten in a cover version by Three Dog Night.
In his book The Improbable Rise of Redneck Rock, author Jan Reid devotes a chapter to Stevenson where he dubs him The Voice.
Stevenson died after complications from heart surgery at age 38.
