B. S. Yediyurappa

B.S. Yediyurappa (born February 27, 1943) is an Indian politician. He is from the BJP and represents Shikaripur in the Karnataka legislative assembly.
He is married to Smt. Mythradevi, and has two sons and three daughters. He is a graduate in the faculty of arts. An agriculturist by profession, his stint in public office began in 1975 when he was elected as Councilor to the Town Municipality of Shikaripura. Later, he was elected as the President of Shikaripura Town Municipality. He was imprisoned during the emergency in India between 1975 and 1977. He has been a member of the Eighth, Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Legislative Assemblies (lower house) of Karnataka. In the Tenth Assembly, he was chosen as Leader of Opposition. For a brief period, he was the member of the legislative council (upper house) from February 17, 2000 to June 10, 2004.
He rose to prominence when, with the help of H.D.KumaraSwamy brought down the coalition government of Dharam Singh. H.D.KumaraSwamy formed the government with the help of the Bharatiya Janta Party in Karnataka headed by Yediyurappa. Yediyurappa is currently the deputy Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka, as well as the finance minister of the state.
