The B-52 crash at Fairchild Air Force Base was an aircraft mishap that occurred on June 24, 1994. In the mishap, Bud Holland, who was piloting a United States Air Force (USAF) B-52 Stratofortress based at Fairchild Air Force Base (AFB) (callsign Czar 52) in a rehearsal for an upcoming airshow, flew the aircraft beyond its operational parameters and lost control. As a result, the aircraft stalled, impacted the ground, and was completely destroyed. The entire crew of four was fatally injured.
A subsequent USAF investigation found that Bud Holland had a history of unsafe piloting behavior and that USAF leaders had repeatedly failed to correct Holland's behavior when it was brought to their attention. Since the accident, this mishap is often used as a teaching aid in training military personnel in the importance of complying with safety procedures and correcting or reporting the behavior of any who disregard safety regulations.
