Bärenjäger

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bärenjäger is a honey-flavoured liqueur based on vodka, made by Teucke & König in Germany. It has a declared alcohol content of 35% alcohol by volume (ABV).

It was first developed in the German province of East Prussia in the 15th century. The company at that time was known as Teucke & König Bear Trap Company, Koenigberg/Pr. There is, in fact, an image of a fur trapper trapping a bear on the bottle.

Bärenjäger is made to the original Bärenfang recipe- literally "Bear's trap" (German: "Baerenfang"), and is still known to some people by that name. The name "Barenjager" translated in German means "bear hunter". Its ingredients are somewhat similar to Okhotnichya, or "hunters' vodka" marketed by the Russian company Stolichnaya.
