Azeroth (kingdom)

Azeroth is a fictional continent in the world of Azeroth in the Warcraft series of video games. It is the southern continent of the trio of continents known as the Eastern Kingdoms.
In games prior to World of Warcraft, Azeroth was also used to refer to the human kingdom that dominated the continent of the same name. In World of Warcraft, that kingdom is referred to as the Kingdom of Stormwind.
Azeroth was a mostly-peaceful country that was invaded by the orcs, savage beings from another plane of existence. Although players could play the role of a human general and defeat the orcs, according to the story continuity established in Warcraft II and Warcraft III, Azeroth is unable to fend off the Orcish Hordes and is conquered. Refugees flee to the distant Kingdom of Lordaeron, the setting of Warcraft II, and portions of Warcraft III.
In World of Warcraft, the name Azeroth is used in a handful instances to refer to the southern continent of the Eastern Kingdoms, but almost always denotes the entire world in which the game is set. The kingdom referred to as Azeroth in earlier games is referred to exclusively as the Kingdom of Stormwind.
