Ayerdhal

Ayerdhal (nè Jacky Soulier), a French science fiction writer, was born 1959 in Lyon, France. He received the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire in 1993 for his novel Demain une oasis and is considered one of the leading names in the current generation of French science fiction authors. He shared the Prix Tour Eiffel with co-author Jean-Claude Dunyach for their 1999 novel Étoiles mourantes. He also received an award for his novel Parleur ou les chroniques d'un rêve enclavé and for Transparences, a thriller.

In addition to his own writing career he devotes part of his time to supporting aspiring young authors.

The covers of all of Ayerdhal's novels have been illustrated by Gilles Francescano whose drawings, according to the author, were the inspiration for the main character in his 1993 novel L'histrion.

Ayerdhal, who holds the genre of science fiction in the highest regard, not only as a tool for learning but as tool for the expression of one's imagination, has stated several reasons for why he believes French science-fiction has sold badly over the years.
