Date Taken: Austral summer 1956-1957

Original description: "The Axel Heiberg Glacier descends from the polar plateau to the Ross Ice Shelf between Herbert Range and Mount Don Pedro Christophersen, in the Queen Maud Mountains. Discovered in November 1911 by Captain Roald Amundsen, and named by him for Consul Axel Heiberg, Norwegian businessman and patron of science, who contributed to numerous Norwegian polar expeditions. This photo was taken during the 1956-1957 austral summer by Navy pilot Jim Waldron."
