Axess TV is a Swedish television channel belonging to the Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation. It is devoted to current affairs, science and cultural programming and only broadcasts in the Weekends.

The Ax:son Johnson Foundation applied for a license to broadcast in the Swedish digital terrestrial television network in the autumn of 2005. The channel was awarded a license to broadcast free-to-air in the Weekends in February 2006, with Aftonbladet using the Weekday space of the same stream (what would later become Aftonbladet TV7).

Trial broadcasts started on May 27. The first weekend contained the opera Dialogues of the Carmelites, the British sitcom Yes, Minister, a disussion programme and a documentary. Long weather forecasts filled most of the schedule. After a few weekends, the trials were cut down to include only the weather forecasts and a nightly episode of Yes, Minister.

The channel had a full launch on September 23 with a cultural strand on Saturdays and a current affairs strand on Sundays. Many Swedish journalists had joined to host programmes in the channel including Nils-Petter Sundgren (Nils-Petters...), Lennart Persson (Veckans debatt), Åke Ortmark (Ortmark), Thomas Gür (Global Axess), Anders Hellner (Dokumentär Utifrån) and Niklas Ekdal (Studio Ekdal). In the beginning, the channel only had male presenters, with the exception of the continuity announcer Susanne Delastacia. Susanna Popova joined the channel to host Åsiktsmaskinen.
