Description

Virginia Opossum

Sometimes, Opossums come up from the woods to eat the cat food we leave out for the cats. I caught this one red-handed. I picked him up by the tail and put him on the deck railing for a close-up shot. This particular specimen was the biggest, fattest, ugliest Opossum I've seen to date. Also, don't try this at home. I have experience handling these creatures, you probably don't. I've picked up tons of them and have never been bitten. But the fact remains that they can be extremely vicious, and their teeth are very sharp.

Luckily, Opossums don't normally carry rabies, because their body temperature is too low to support the virus.
