Avtury raid was a Chechen rebel attack on the village of Avtury on August 12-13, 2004.
[edit] Battle
A large group of the Chechen separatist fighters entered Avtury during night. First they blocked all entrances to the village and then attacked and seized the buildings of the security forces, inflicting heavy casualties.
A dozen members of pro-Moscow Chechen police and militia forces who had run out of ammunition were captured.
The fighting continued outside the village later on the second day.
[edit] Casualties
At least 18 pro-Moscow fighters and 15 guerillas died in the village, according to the government sources. [1] They declined to disclose the republican and federal losses during the fighting in the vicinity of Avtury.
The rebels said they lost 5 killed and 2 missing, while the enemy losses accounted to "at least 45 to 50 killed". [2]
