Talk:Aviazione Ausiliara per l´Esercito

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1923 Mussolini decided that all military aviation should be gathered in an independent service: Règia Aeronautica. Aviazione Ausiliara per l´Esercito (A.A.E.) was a branch of Règia Aeronautica with the sole purpose of providing Règio Esercito (Italian Army) with close air support. Règio Esercito lost its aircraft when Corpo Aeronautico Militare was merged with Aviazione della Règia Marina to Règia Aeronautica in 1923. The personnel of A.A.E. wore air force uniforms. The introduction of this article states that A.A.E. was part of the army.
A.A.E. was like the British Army Air Corps until 1942, when it became independent of RAF, or like the German Luftwaffe; Schlachtgeschwadern (ground-attack) and Aufklärungsgeschwadern (reconnaissance) participating in close air support. Japan and USA did not have independent air forces in world war two, so their army air corps also had long range bombers and fast fighters. Since the independent Italian air force had these aircraft, any comparison between A.A.E. and Japanese/American army air corps would be a misinterpretation.
