Aventura is a Dominican-American Bachata-R&B music group based in Bronx,New York. The group was formed in 1994 by Anthony 'Romeo' Santos, Lenny Santos, Max Santos, and Henry Santos Jeter. Back then they went by the name Los Teenagers (meaning The Teenagers). They later decided to change their group name to Aventura. They created their own unique style of Bachata, infusing sounds such as Hip-Hop, R&B and Reggaeton, while also bringing both Spanish and English into their lyrics. Their real break did not come until 1999, when they signed with BMG. 3 years later that they gained recognition with the album We Broke The Rules and the smash hit Obsesión, now a staple at Latin dance venues around the world. In 2005, Frankie J did an English cover of the song and saw success with it and the remixes that followed.
Aventura has also performed several of their compositions with guest vocalists including Judy Santos, whose vocals are featured in the song Obsession, and Toby Love.

[edit] Controversy
Like many other musicians, Aventura has gone through several controveries. On February 22, 2007 Anthony 'Romeo' Santos won Pop song of the year along with Mexican singer, Thalia for the song "No, no, no" at the 2007 Premios Lo Nuestro . The controversy came when Anthony 'Romeo' Santos accepted the award and did not thank Thalia, he instead thanked and dedicated the award to his seven year old son, Alex. Anthony, who composed the song, replied by saying that when he heard he had won the award the only person he could think of was his son, which is why he dedicated him the award. He apologized to Thalia (who was unable to attend the award) for not having thanked her.
In late 2006, Aventura was banned from ever performing in the Dominican Republic. The incident involved a minor who got up on stage while Aventura was performing and began "dancing inappropriately" with member, Henry Santos Jeter. Aventura states that they did not know the girl was a minor. The ban has been removed since.
[edit] Cross-cultural influence
- Recently, Priyan Weerappuli, the leader of the Sri Lankan group Pahan Silu, referred to Aventura as among his greatest musical influences.
