[edit] Importance

I'm not an automag owner, but I'm fairly familiar with paintball and its history and I know that automags hold a venerable place in paintball history. It is the first marker to win a national paintball tournament, and before the rise of electropneumatics, it was one of the most popular markers on the tournament scene along with autocockers. Though they're not as popular today, Automags deserve as much of a place on wikipedia as any other popular paintball marker, if only because of their storied past.

Off the top of my head, the important features were: the powerfeed, the valve/regulator, and later the RT. Someone should probably put a blurb about the RT.

The powerfeed can still be found on markers today, as force-fed hoppers are still making their way in.

The valve/regulator allowed for a single-tube marker design; AGD was well ahead of the times with this one, as most (but not all) of the guns for the next, what, 10-15 years, used a double tube design for bolt+hammer.

The lasting influence of the Automag was really the development of the RT, which can't/shouldn't run on CO2. This led the push for HPA systems, in a day when the field was full of Tippmanns and Autocockers which were more than happy to run on CO2. --GoatBoy 17:02, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cleaner but still messy

Okay I moved a lot of things around, changed the subcategory layout, and made some edits to grammar and flow. The page looks a lot better, but much more needs to be done.

Though I am famliar with this marker's operation, I'm not an expert. Someone else is going to have to go through this and make the more technical stuff easier to understand. --Donutmonger 17:46, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tac-One?

Should the Tac-One be added to this page? Airman Wolf 22:50, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
