The Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight (ACOTF) is a fortnightly editorial collaboration on an article of Australian significance. The aim of this initiative is to fill gaps in coverage of Australia on Wikipedia by developing individual articles one-by-one through extensive co-operation. Hopefully, during the collaboration or soon after, the article will attain or near featured standard. The collaboration also serves to give users a focus and something to be proud of.

ACOTF is part of the WikiProject Australia, which has a to-do list for ongoing tasks.

Contents

[edit] Procedure

Anyone who is a registered user prepared to collaborate on the article, not just Australians, can nominate an article and can vote for nominated articles.

Every second Sunday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for two weeks to potential contributors. The next winner will be selected on Sunday, 15 April, 2007, 20:00 (AEST)

Previous winners that have gone on to become featured articles can be found at /Features. All previous winners can be found at /History. Removed nominations can be found at /Removed.

[edit] Nominations

New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of this page. Please use the template in the comment.

If the page you are nominating already exists, please add {{WP Australia | collaboration-candidate=yes |...}} to the top of its talk page.

Considerations for nominations

[edit] Voting

Please vote for as many of the following candidates as you like. Please add only support votes. Opposing votes will not affect the result, as the winner is simply the one with the most support votes (see Approval voting).

Only registered users should vote. Any Wikipedian can vote on this page. You do not have to be an Australian.

To enter your votes, simply edit the appropriate sections by just inserting a new line with "# ~~~~". This will add your username and a time stamp in a new numbered list item.

Potential voters should consider when voting whether they are prepared to contribute to that article if it is selected. The ACOTF can not be effective if people vote purely in the hopes that someone else will improve an article. The purpose is to draw together a group of interested people for a time.

Tie-breakers

In case of a tie, the tied candidate that was nominated first will be selected.

[edit] Selection

If the article is selected as the ACOTF, enter the article's complete title at Template:Collab-australian. The template {{Current Australian COTF}} should then be placed at the top of the selected article's page.

When the article is no longer ACOTF, please add the following template to the talk page: {{WP Australia |past-acotf=dates}}

[edit] Pruning

Nominations will be moved to /Removed if they do not attract attention. An item will be allowed to remain up for voting two weeks per two votes it receives.

NOTE: If the turnover of collaborations slows down as it did in September/October 2006, the expiry dates should be taken with a pinch of salt for a while and allowed to relax to ensure popular choices are not pruned merely due to nobody actually selecting a new collaboration topic.

Items may also be removed if they are inappropriate for nomination (see Considerations... above)

Comments: Created to merge a lot of small articles into something more useful; needs a lot of work. --Peta 00:46, 22 February 2007 (UTC) Hopefully, this will lead to Climate change in Australia, not incorporate that topic (eventually, maybe?)Garrie 11:45, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Soldier settlement (Australia)

  4. Scott Davis Talk 13:05, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Comments: Given the enormous influence of Soldier Settlement schemes in every State of Australia after both World War 1 and World War 2, and the attempt by those 10's of 1000's of families to deal with the climate of Australia through the adventurous use of irrigation - I found it somewhat unusual that no such article existed. Have started article today. I hope that is proper for me to suggest - if this article is supported that it be the collaboration of the fortnight for the period that contains Anzac Day 2007? --VS talk...images 01:55, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Would a better name be Soldier Settlement in Australia? That would be consistent with other "... in Australia" articles.Mattinbgn/ talk 07:56, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I will be happy to adjust the name if the consensus leans that way. I picked the style of the current name because there was something on the topic called Soldier Settlement Board which deals with a similar program in Canada. --VS talk 08:53, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Just to inform you all - thanks to Golden Wattle's idea I have put Soldier settlement (Australia) up as a Did You Know candidate here. --VS talk 23:56, 25 February 2007 (UTC) (And has since been accepted :-) ) --VS talk 23:39, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Comments:

  • This article is a disgrace, and is an important part of Australia's history. It was previously nominated back in 2005 and failed on votes, but it's time to bring this up again and fix it up. JRG 01:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
  • There's plenty of sources out there waiting for this article. It's a very important topic, and needs a lot of work. --Michael Billington (talkcontribs) 11:23, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Australian federal general elections

Nominated on 13 March 2007; needs 4 votes by 10 April 2007 to remain listed.

Support:

  1. Brisvegas 11:49, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
  2. JRG 11:59, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Comments:

  • Currently not all elections are listed on the encyclopaedia. Although expanding coverage is undoubtedly a mammoth task, one aspect that could be rapidly addressed is the consistency of formats between articles. Compare the articles from Australian general election, 1972 onwards (which use a smaller Federal election major party leaders infobox) to the ones for 1901, 1903 and 1906, which use coloured boxes side by side. To be honest I like both formats, but we'll need to use just one for consistency. Hopefully more work can be done to expand coverage of the elections throughout Australian history. Brisvegas 11:49, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
  • This would be better written as a list with a lengthy headnote, with the result of the election and some other details. JRG 11:59, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Comments:

  • I suspect the article should be renamed. I think it also needs to deal with nuclear energy. There are many more gaps however. The issue of nuclear power, alternative fuels, ownership of energy production, the Snowy Mountains scheme and ownership all need better treatment.--Golden Wattle talk 20:23, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
  • A topic that should be of great interest towards the end of the year.--cj | talk 23:18, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Yes - already highly political and of course related to climate change / global warming issues. Need to discuss Mr Turnbull's lightbulbs here too AAAAAGGHHH!--Golden Wattle talk 23:21, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
  • And then he leaves the project (Wattle not Turnbull)...bon voyage! SatuSuro 05:56, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
