Umm... Is it just me or are the census a little bit inaccurate? There are over 2,500 Mexicans(Indian/Native American) or Latinos working at Quality Pork Processing alone.

Who are you kidding? It has to be more than that! Personally, I'd say that it's pushing four thousand, but that's just me.

This is not the place for xenophobic rants. The article already shows a bias that would be eliciting a lot of critical discussion if it were on a more active subject. The greatest danger of a tool like Wikipedia is the willful dissemination of propaganda or bias disguised as fact; the second greatest danger is the unintentional dissemination of misinformation. Someone needs to check the facts here.

True, true. I was merely joking. Although, joking is probably not a good idea when text is so ambiguous in its ability to be read. I may jest while the reader reads hate and sincerity.

I wasn't trying to be xenophobic, I was just pointing out that there is a large number of people who are usually not counted in the census. I don't have any problem with immigrants.

- - So the cenus numbers say 1,426 (23,314 inhabitants x .0612%) Latino/Hispanics in Austin. "Someone needs to check the facts here?" What facts? Anything short of purging the records of Hormel/QPP (which has been done) and comparing it to the number of Hispanic/Latino employees (also...has been done) would not yield any better "facts" than what the Census provides. Quick guess here. The first person/people have first-hand knowledge of Austin and/or hormel/QPP. The person screaming xenophobia has never set foot in Austin and never will. Am I right on both? Calling someone racist based on their disagreement with posted facts and figures shows a type of knee-jerk "P.C." attitude that helps no one. The comments were on the discussion page anyway. Any wikinerd like myself knows to take everything on wiki with a grain of salt.

The person "screaming" xenophobia happened to grow up in Austin, and although I don't live there anymore, I've watched closely the swelling racial tensions in the city over the past two decades. Don't pretend there's not racism in town. But please note that I didn't call anybody racist; my point is simply that if you think the census data on the city's Latino population is inaccurate (and you are, apparently, alarmed at the fact that it is low), then that smacks of at least a hint of xenophobia. But in any case, this site is not a forum for such sentiments.

[edit] Churches

I have refactored the list of churches. All of these churches are considered to be non-notable, and, after a short test debate on Articles for deletion/New Life Vineyard Christian Fellowship, it was decided to merge all those articles with this page. --Gareth Hughes 13:17, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
