[edit] Description from category page

The textual description below, which was on the category page, does not read like a category description, which would explain how the category is used to organize articles. Instead, it reads like the introduction to an article on immigration to Australia. I have cut it from the category page, and I am placing it here in case someone wants to use it for something later. Australian immigration has a checkered history. Immigration to the continent now called Australia began over 50,000 years ago, when the ancestors of Australian Aboriginal people arrived (probably) from India via Indonesia and New Guinea. Europeans began landing in the 1600s and 1700s, and the country was colonised by Britain in 1788.
