Australian rules football in the United Arab Emirates

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Australian rules football in the United Arab Emirates has been played since 2006, with the creation of a club in Dubai known as the Dubai Dingoes.[1] In addition to the senior team, there is junior football held weekly. The club is mainly composed of expatriate Australians as well as Irish from the local gaelic football club. The Dingoes plan to host a 9-a-side international tournament in early 2007.[2]

The Australian Football League has also occasionally touted the UAE as a potential location for an exhibition match, probably involving the Collingwood Magpies who are sponsored by Emirates Airlines.[3][4] In 2007, an exhibition match featuring Collingwood and Adelaide Crows was confirmed for the second week of February 2008.[5]
