Australian rules football in Indonesia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Australian rules football in Indonesia is played by two expatriate Australian clubs, the Jakarta Bintangs[1] and the Bali Geckos club on the island of Bali.[2] The two clubs regularly contest the Java-Bali Cup and participate in the Asian Australian Football Championsips. In late 2006 a team was under formation by Australians in Banda Aceh, nicknamed the Bandits.

The game is also played by Indonesians in the West Java Australian Football League on the island of Java. There are over 500 local junior and senior players in the local competition which has been running since 2005.[3] The large number of local players makes it one of the highest participating countries in the sport.
