The Australian herring, Arripis georgianus, is one of four species within the Arripis genus. It closely resembles its cousin the Australian salmon, Arripis trutta, although it grows to a smaller size. Like the other members of its genus, it is found in cooler waters around the southern coast of Australia and possibly New Zealand. It is not related to the herring family(Clupeidae).

In Victoria and South Australia, it is commonly called the "Tommy Ruff".
