Australian Patrol Boat Group

The Australian Patrol Boat Group is a force element group of the Royal Australian Navy. The group's mission is to provide patrol boat capability for the protection of Australia's national interests.
The Patrol Boat Group operates 3 Fremantle class patrol boats and 8 Armidale class patrol boats, the remaining Fremantle class will be replaced over the next few years by a further 9 Armidale class vessels. The Group's headquarters are located at HMAS Coonawarra in the city of Darwin, additional support is provided by the class logistics office at HMAS Cairns.

With the introduction of the Armidale class patrol boats the APBG is being reorganised into three divisions of four ships and six crews and a fourth division of two ships and three crews. When the reorganisation is complete the Group will have the following structure:[1]
- 1st/Attack Division (HMAS Coonawarra, Darwin)[2]

- HMAS Bathurst
- HMAS Albany
- Six Armidale Class patrol boat crews (Attack 1-6)
- 2nd/Assail Division (HMAS Coonawarra)

- HMAS Broome
- Six Armidale Class patrol boat crews (Assail 1-6)
- 3rd/Ardent Division (forming) (HMAS Cairns, Cairns)[3]

- HMAS Launceston
- Six Armidale Class patrol boat crews (Ardent 1-6)
- 4th/Aware Division (forming) (Dampier, Western Australia)[4]
