The Australian Hockey League or AHL is considered one of the largest national field hockey leagues in the world, and includes many players from the Kookaburras & the Hockeyroos. The AHL consists of both men's and women's competition.

Both the men's and women's AHL features one team from each state. The teams as of 2006 were:

Men's

  • MIA Tassie Tigers
  • Northpharm Territory Stingers
  • NSW Waratahs
  • Queensland Blades
  • Smokefree WA Thundersticks

Women's

  • NSW Arrows
  • Paspaley Territory Pearls
  • Queensland Scorchers
  • Smokefree WA Diamonds
  • Wrest Point Van Demons

This year the competition was held from 8 April 2006 to 21 May 2006. The eventual winners were the Queensland Blades & the Smokefree WA Diamonds.
