Austin Pitre

Austin Pitre (23 February 19188 April 1981) was a Cajun music pioneer from Louisiana, United States. Pitre claimed to be the first musician to play the accordion standing up, rather than sitting down. Along with his band, the Evangeline Playboys, Pitre recorded Cajun dancehall hits such as the Opelousas Waltz. Pitre died from a lawn mower–related accident in 1981.
