Austin Idol (born Dennis McCord) was a professional wrestler. He was known as the "Universal Heartthrob".

Austin Idol graduated from Robinson High School in Tampa, Florida.

He started wrestling in 1972 and wrestled in the southeast promotions holding many titles in the USWA, Georgia, & Mid Atlantic territories. He had a long running feud with Jerry Lawler.

One of his finishing moves was the figure-four leglock which he called "Las Vegas Leglock."

He retired in 1995.

Idol was one of the survivors of the plane crash that killed Bobby Shane in 1975. He was flying with Buddy Colt and Gary Hart. The plane encountered poor weather and zero visibility when it went down in the murky waters of Tampa Bay.

Austin Aries took the name Austin to honor Idol, who was a favorite wrestler of Aries growing up.
