Austin Gatt

Austin Gatt (born July 29, 1953) is Minister for Investment, Industry and IT of Malta.

He studied at the University of Malta where, in 1975, he graduated as Doctor of Law. He has been involved in politics since 1976 when he was responsible for the Nationalist Party Electoral Office. In 1988 he was elected Secretary General of the Nationalist Party and held the post until 1997.

Gatt first stood as a Nationalist Party candidate in the 1996 general elections when he was elected. After the 1998 general elections he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and after a few months, in March 1999, promoted to Minister of Justice and Local Government. After the 2003 elections he was appointed Minister of Investments and IT with Industry being added to his portfolio in 2004 after the resignation of John Dalli from Cabinet.

He is married to Marisa Zammit-Maempel and they have two sons.
