AustNet

AustNet or austnet is an IRC network which aims to provide a friendly and secure alternative to other IRC networks such as DALnet and EFNet. Launched in September 1996 by Ryan Mills and Roger Yerramsetti, it was initially intended to provide an independent Australian IRC network. It now has servers located in Australia, the United States and Singapore.

AustNet feature their own service system and IRCD called Austhex, designed by the AustNet Development Team. It uses ChanOP (Channel Registration) and NickOP (Nickname Registration) services. A link to the project is listed in External Links.

February 12th 2007 saw a major split within AustNet with some of the Administrators, IRCop's and Servers moving to a forked network called AustIRC.

The forked network now consists of members of former AustNet staff and several former AustNet servers.
