From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aurora Central Catholic High School began as two separate secondary schools in 1926. Madonna Catholic High School, a girls' school, and Roncalli High School, a boys' school, merged in 1968 to become Aurora Central Catholic. The first campus was located on the East Side of Aurora in what is now Cowherd Middle School. The current location for the campus is on Aurora's West Side at 1255 N. Edgelawn Drive. The student body as of 2007 numbered 460 students.
Aurora Central Catholic requires 28 credits for graduation. However, because of the block scheduling system that is utilized by ACC, many students graduate with 30 or 32 credits. There is a wide range of courses and levels offered which includes honors and Advanced Placement courses.
ACC is part of the Suburban Catholic Conference. As of 2007, it was a Class A school in the IHSA class system for sports. Other schools in ACC's conference include Rosary High School, Marmion Academy, Driscoll Catholic High School, St. Edward High School, St. Francis High School, Marian Central Catholic High School, Immaculate Conception High School, and Montini High School. The mascot of Aurora Central Catholic is the Charger.
The Aurora Central Catholic High School Class of 2007 had ten Illinois State Scholars, and the college-bound students earned over $3.8 million in scholarship money. This amount surpassed the Class of 2006's $3.7 million.
