The Aurora Cavalry were a professional basketball team in the International Basketball League. They were based in Aurora, Colorado, the state's second minor league basketball franchise, and they played in the 2006 season. The team was coached by A.B. Maxey and played its home games at Gateway High School.

[edit] Franchise History
The first professional sports franchise in the history of Aurora, Colorado was created as an expansion team of the International Basketball League in September of 2005. Initially slated to be named the Aurora Outlaws, the franchise became the Aurora Cavalry and from its organization began to take its place as one of the premier franchises of the league, under leadership of owners Dirk Speyer and Joel Jose. The Cavalry tipped off their first game on March 31, 2006, beating their crosstown rival Colorado Crossover 140-132. Beginning their existence with a 5-game winning streak, Aurora, led by coach Dejon Jernagin, quickly gained a reputation for a balanced attack which was hard for their opponents to counter, including the high-powered Seattle Mountaineers and Tri City Ballers. The Cavalry came out on the losing end of a historic game against the Crossover on April 28, 2006 when they were outlasted 162-161 in overtime, the second highest scoring total in Colorado pro basketball history, where 7 Cavalry scored in double figures. However, injuries and players getting noticed to join other leagues took their toll on the Cavalry's first season. However, the Cavalry finished 2006 in 3rd place in the Western Conference on a 3-game winning streak under new coach A.B. Maxey. Although a tough and proven team against elite teams in the league, the Aurora Cavalry did not play in the postseason due to league budget constraints which prevented all teams in the Western Conference from playing. The Cavalry have since ceased operations.
