Augustine Francis Schinner

Augustine Francis Schinner (May 1, 1863 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin-February 7, 1937 in Milwaukee and was buried there) was a Roman Catholic bishop. He was the first Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Superior, Wisconsin; he was the first Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Spokane, Washington. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 7, 1886, by Archbishop Michael Heiss of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee. On May 13, 1905, Pope Pius X appointed him the first Bishop of the Diocese of Superior; he was ordained a bishop on July 25, 1905. On March 18, 1914, Bishop Schinner was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Spokane, Washington; he was installed on April 18, 1914. On December 17, 1925, Bishop Schinner retired and he was a missionary in Bolivia from 1925-1928, until he finally retired to Milwaukee, where he died and was buried.
