Augustin Hadelich

Augustin Hadelich is the winner of the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Born in Italy in 1984, the son of German parents, he has established himself as a commanding and eloquent voice among the new generation of violinists.
Augustin Hadelich holds a diploma (summa cum laude) from the Instituto Mascagni in Livorno, Italy, and a graduate diploma from the Juilliard School, where he was a student of Joel Smirnoff. He has been a participant at the Marlboro and Ravinia festivals and in numerous master classes with renowned violinists such as Uto Ughi, Christoph Poppen, Norbert Brainin, Pinchas Zukerman, Zachar Bron, Yehudi Menuhin and Miriam Fried. His first teacher was his father, an agriculturist by profession, as well as an accomplished pianist and cellist.
Performing since the age of seven, Mr. Hadelich's over one hundred and fifty concerts include many recitals as well as appearances with the Ann Arbor Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony, Chicago Philharmonic, Louisiana Philharmonic, Louisville Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra and the Syracuse Symphony among others. Outside the U.S., engagements include the Capetown Philharmonic, Dresdner Philharmonie (under Yehudi Menuhin), Staatsorchester Erfurt, Museumsorchester Frankfurt, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Nacional Claudio Santoro (Brazil), and the chamber orchestras of Bavaria, Berlin, Hamburg, Kiel, Lucerne, Pforzheim and Toulouse.
In December 1999, Mr. Hadelich almost lost his life in a fire at the family's farm in Italy. However, He made a successful return to the concert stage after many operations and months of painful recovery. He performs on the 1683 ex-Gingold Stradivari violin.
