Audrey Wyler

Audrey Wyler is a fictional character from the parallel world novels by Stephen King and Richard Bachman, Desperation and The Regulators, respectively.

On the Earth of "Desperation," Audrey Wyler is an aspiring geologist; on the Earth of "The Regulators," she is the happily married housewife of Herbert Wyler. When her brother's entire family is gunned down in what (at the time) appears to be a drive-by shooting, she adopts the only surviving member of her brother's family: Seth Garin.

Like a relative handful of characters including Jim Reed, Kirsten "Pie" Carver, Cary Ripton, and Collie Entragian, Audrey Wyler dies at the conclusion of both novels.

On the Earth in which the events of "Desperation" takes place, Audrey Wyler comes into contact with the various can tahs that Tak-Cary has deliberately seeded around town. Normally, the can tahs quickly drive to insanity any humans that pick them up; but not all people are affected in exactly the same manner, and thus it was with Audrey. Instead of driving her insane, the can tahs partially co-opted her mind and partially warped her body, increasing her height to nearly six feet tall as well as making her an unwitting and unwilling sleeper agent for Tak. (Over the course of the story, it is implied to the reader that Tak-Collie knew of her location early on and could have killed her, but could sense that she was infected by the can tahs and decided that in the long run she would be more useful to him alive. The reader is also informed that Tak-Collie didn't imprison her for later use as a possible Host Body because humans 'contaminated' by the can tahs are then incapable of being used as a Host Body by Tak.)

Once Tak determined that it was itself being manipulated by God, Tak sent a signal to Audrey to track down and kill the God-servant David Carver, and Audrey herself was forced to comply. Over the course of the next few minutes Audrey loses physical contact with the can tahs which she carried on her person, and begins to physically melt down within moments; it is unclear how long her body would have 'held out' had she been able to maintain physical contact with the can tahs (kept in a dress pocket close to her skin).

On the Earth in which the events of "The Regulators" takes place, Audrey is killed by Cammie Reed, by a close range rifle shot to her throat.
