Audio control surface
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An audio control surface is a hardware device that can be used to control virtual mixer and effects parameters in a multi-track audio sequencer application. A typical control surface is a collection of knobs, faders and buttons that can be assigned to controls in the sequencer application. This heavily reduces the operator's reliance on the keyboard and mouse, as well as giving a feeling of using an older analog mixing console.
Typically, control surfaces communicate with the computer via the MIDI protocol and a MIDI interface, although some newer models utilize USB connections.
