The Audi Q3 is an automobile manufactured by Audi AG of Germany that is expected to debut commercially in 2010. The three-door only SUV wil lbe aimed as more of a lifestyle/sports car, rather than for the family/off-road market its older Q5 & Q7 brothers aim for. The car will be underpinned by Audi's new MLP (Modular Longitudinal Platform) platform, the same platform which will be a feature of future A3, A4, A6 & A5 models. The new platform is said to address the major front overhang many Audi's suffer from, and also give dynamics a welcome boost, making Audi's more competitive with BMW & Mercedes-Benz.

The car will combine a north-south engine layout with flexible steering and suspension offers. The Q3 will borrow many Golf V, or possibly Golf VI, components, such as a twin-clutch (DSG) transmission and a 147kW 2.0 FSI turbo engine featured in the current Golf GTI. The car should also feature a 171kW 3.0 turbo-diesel V6 & a "monster" 210kW 3.6 FSI V6 for the flagship stormer, the Q3S.

While the car should be available in both FWD & AWD variants, there will be no height-adjustable suspension, lockable differentials or low-range gearing. Instead, the car will feature larger wheels and a sports suspension.

The car has been approved due to the large profit-margins SUVs bring, and the continuing strong sales of Premium SUVs both in the U.S. and Europe. The company is targeting niche markets to reach its ambitious sales targets, and the Q3 is part of these plans.
