Attentatet i Pålsjö skog is a 1996 alternate history novel by Hans Alfredson. In the book a group of Swedish communists blow up a German train passing through Sweden, killing Eva Braun who was on board. Hitler is infuriated and invades Sweden, which surrenders on May 12, 1941.

The novel uses a lot of actual persons. Prime Minister Per Albin Hansson is captured by the Germans, but others manage to get away and form an exile government in London. King Gustav V is also captured but abdicates making prince Gustaf VI Adolf who was already safely in London, king. Raoul Wallenberg works with smuggling Jews out of Sweden. More controversial is that the book also mentions who collaborates with the Germans. Author Per Olof Sundman and IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad lead local SS groups. Fredrik Böök, Sven Hedin, Åke Ohlmarks and many more support the new rulers. Sven-Olof Lindholm becomes a Quisling like leader of the occupied Sweden.

Due to the invasion of Sweden operation Barbarossa gets delayed three weeks giving Stalin time to organise a better defence bringing the German downfall sooner. The invasion at Normandy occurs in the spring of 1944. Hitler kills himself in December 1944 and World War II ends on December 28. By then Sweden is liberated from the north down to Östersund by British, Russian and a British organized exile troops called The Royal Swedish.

In the epilogue it is said that "more than four million Jews were killed". And after the war history pretty much is back to normal.
