[edit] Alex Torpey

Alex Torpey was born in Manhattan, New York on August 10th, 1987. Shortly after his birth his family moved to Maplewood, New Jersey. In 5th grade, the family moved again to South Orange, the town over. He attended Columbia High School, playing varsity tennis for four years. At this point in time, Mr. Torpey is attending Hampshire College, in Amherst, Massachusettes. He is studying politics and law at Hampshire, planning to go into state government upon graduation. His wise words of wisdom precede him wherever he goes:

"Music is unique because, unlike language, it can easily permeate through different cultures, uniting people in a way which is truly incomparable."

"The only pre-requisite to complaining is taking an active role in propogating change where it needs to be had."

"Can I please have my shoes back?"

Mr. Torpey, at the young age 14 started his own tennis business. He started stringing racquets, and with the help of his tennis coach Joe Caputo, was able to run a prosperous business at a young age. He continued on this path for about a year before he started giving lessons at the local tennis courts. His business was able to succeed because of the personal service and low price. He soon became booked up over summers, often out on the court for five of six hours a day.

Although tennis took up much of Alex's younger life, politics is what is really most important to him.

"There are many things which I enjoy doing; cigars, playing or listening to music, taking leisure drives, long walks on the beach... but politics is different. Politics is an incredibly important aspect in everyone's life. It upsets me to hear people say that they are not interested in politics. It would be silly, of course, to ask everyone to become a politician, but there is a middleground. People need to make sure that they become involved and active in local government. If you attend a college, make yourself active in what's happening on campus."

These wise words have carried Mr. Torpey to success early in his college career. He is the Communications Officer on Community Council, and is pushing proposals to re-assert Community Council on the campus of Hampshire.

In recent years Mr. Torpey has become utterly infatuated with Famous Daves. Famous Daves is bar & grill type resturant found mostly on the east coast and down south. They serve delicious food at a reasonable price in a fun atmosphere. "There is always a good time to be had at Famous Daves. The more people you can bring to an event, there more fun it will be. I must warn you however, that be wary of any waitress with the name Lisa... just trust me."
