Samantha Eve Wilkins is a fictional superhero, who appears in the comic book Invincible, which is published by Image Comics. Her codename is Atom Eve. She has the dramatic ability to alter the atomic structure of almost everything around her. These powers are as minor as converting her clothes into a superhero costume, or transforming an entire section of African savanna to a split-level house.

Despite her enormous powers, Eve is insecure about how others view her and her abilities.

[edit] Early life

Atom Eve was a child created by the government to be a weapon. At birth, she was switched with a dead baby, going home with a caring family. At a very young age she was a prodigy in science and received a scholarship to a prestigious school. Her scientific ability turned out to be an early manifestation of her powers.

A man approached her one day, warning Eve that her powers may be her downfall and encouraged her to never to use them again.

[edit] Superhero Career

Prior to the first issue of Invincible, Atom Eve joined the Teen Team as an after-school superhero. She soon started a friendship with Invincible after the two met saving a shipment of video game consoles from a Mauler twin. Eve & Mark are around each other so much that many people (teacher, students, parents) believe there is something going on between the two even though they continue to say that they are "just friends". After finding out Rex Splode, her boyfriend, was cheating on her with Dupli-Kate, she was sick for days. Although she did not join the new Guardians of the Globe along with her Teen Team teammates, she continued as an active superhero for some time. However she eventually decided that her talents were being wasted on superheroics and that she could do more good elsewhere. Subsequently she quit superhero work and moved to Africa to engage in aid work.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

In issue #34, Invincible met with a future version of Atom Eve that confessed her undying love for him. She instructed him to either tell her either that he (Invincible) loved her, or that he hated, or didn't want anything to do with her romantically so that she (Eve) could get on with her life.

In Issue #38, while Invincible is recovering from the incident with the Reanimen, he flies to meet Eve, whom he had not talked to since the fight with Angstrom Levy. After sharing a friendly hug and an awkward pause afterwards, they share a passionate kiss. Immediately afterward, however, Mark apologizes and voices his guilt at going behind his girlfriend's back, and is verbally relieved to be called to fight off an alien invasion.

[edit] Powers and Abilities

While it is more than likely that her powers are from some kind of genetic engineering on the part of the government, the exact nature/means to which she is able to use her abilities is unknown.

Atom Eve is able to manipulate matter at the sub-atomic level by sheer will power. Organic and inorganic matter can be changed into anything she desires. She can augment normally bad food such as cakes and other sweets into nutritious foods as well as re-arrange the environment. Her costume is easily created by altering her clothes to fashion her Atom Eve suit.

She can also fly by lowering the density of the air around her as well as creating force fields.
