Atlantis no Nazo (translated from Japanese as "Puzzle of Atlantis") is an action game developed and published by Sunsoft and released exclusively for Japan for the Nintendo Famicom in 1986. Though an international version was never released, a partially translated prototype version was under development under the name Super Pitfall 2.

The player assumes the role of an explorer investigating the ruins of the recently arisen lost city of Atlantis. Arriving to the site by hot air balloon, and armed with sticks of dynamite, the hero must transverse several underground labyrinths and battle strange creatures before reaching the city's inner sanctum, and claim any treasures that may be there.

While simplistic in execution, the game follows the typical formulaic approach to 1980s console games of leaving much of the story and events up to the players' own interpretation.

Atlantis no Nazo plays very similarly to a typical 2D sidescroller, with the character moving either left or right across the screen, transversing any obstacles in his path by jumping over them. In order to advance, the player must find doors hidden within each of the game's 100 zones, and is sometimes required to enter them in a certain order.

The game is regarded as highly difficult by most fans, mostly in part to the sheer number of enemies that may be on the screen at any time. This, in addition to the fact that the character's primary offensive maneuver (lobbing a stick of dynamite) travels in an arching angle in front of them, makes precision attacks that much more difficult.

During gameplay, a timer on the bottom of the screen will display how long the player has to find the exit of the current zone they are in. If the timer ever reaches zero, they will automatically lose a life. Score is kept at the top of the screen, and can be increased by defeating enemies or finding treasures along the way.

  • While never released outside of Japan, the game was considered for publication in North America by Activision as an honorary part of its Pitfall series.
  • This game features a crossover from another Sunsoft Famicom game, Ikki. When the game is beaten, Ikki makes the same pose as when he beats a level in the Ikki game.
