From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling (AGPW) is a wrestling promotion ran and owned by Emile Duprée, AKA Golden Boy Dupree (father of Rene Dupree). Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling is currently on a break. AGPW usually preforms in parts of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.
Some of the most famous wrestlers to compete in AGPW include Killer Kowalski (trainer of Triple H), Andre The Giant, Randy Savage, and many more including the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. The 60's and 70's are the years that some say was Emile Duprée's biggest success period.
AGPW began operations during the early 1960s. During the 1960s and the 1970s, AGPW was so popular it became a hit in the Maritimes. AGPW mainly ran shows in Moncton, New Brunswick during Monday nights, Halifax, Nova Scotia during Thursdays, Berwick, Nova Scotia on Saturday evenings and along other small towns in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.
[edit] Championships
Every summer, there were two major championships up for grabs, those being the United States Heavyweight title and the North American Tag Team title. Other titles in AGPW included the European Heavyweight title and the Maritime Heavyweight title. The European Heavyweight title was held more by Killer Karl Krupp than any other AGPW star, and the Maritime Heavyweight title was held the most by Stephen Petitpas. During the late 1980s, the United States Heavyweight title was changed to the International Heavyweight title.
As far as is known, there are no currently active championships in AGPW.
