By 1996 she had moved to Los Angeles,California. It was here that began her transition when she started female hormone treatment and eventually hauled her into the red-light district life where occasionally she worked the streets of Santa Monica Boulevard, a street notorious for its transsexual hookers. At around 4:55 a.m. of May 2, 1997, L.A. police officers followed and pulled over a Toyota land cruiser after witnessing the vehicle pick-up Shalimar, by their surprise the car was driven by comic star Eddie Murphy. By sunrise the incident turned into an ugly he said/she said dispute that soon headlined the front covers of tabloid magazines and entertainment shows. The episode grew more shocking when a magazine photographer surfaced with the incident caught on tape and aired nationally on Hard Copy TV. It wasn't long before the showbiz world poked fun, from Jay Leno and Eddie’s own pals at Saturday Night Live that featured a comical reenactment of the conficlt. Soon dozens of transsexuals splashed over tabloids and talkshows to whip out revolting sexual accounts with Murphy. But, It was only after that the tales turned out to be frabricated and details of bribery between the trannies and damage control camp agents were reported. The propaganda enraged Murphy and hammered the National Enquirer and The Globe with $5 million lawsuits for slander and invasion of privacy but later dropped his suits after an unspecified settlement. He also filed suit against Ioane Seiuli, who claimed to be a realative of Shalimar and gave false reports to the New York Times.

[edit] 15 Minutes of Fame

Transsexual author Candace Watkins fascinated by the circus uproar, published a tell-all that featured Shalimar and stories from other trannies who claimed to have bedded the actor. Shalimar’s infamous celebrity status catapulted her own lifestyle, after appearing in a porn film, she left the streets and became the House Madame at the illustrious L.A. nightclub 7969 where she featured erotic routines as a dominatrix with live snakes and Hollywood stars such as Demi Moore and Charlie Sheen came to see her shows. But around the same time, according to accounts Shalimar gave to friends and family, she began receiving death threats from Eddie Murphy fans who were furious that she was tarnishing Murphy’s reputation for her own personal gain. Terrified and paranoid she traveled on long trips under different alias desperate to find solace.

[edit] Death of a Queen

On the morning of April 22, 1998 a woman walking her dog found Shalimar’s body, clad only in a panty and Bra on a sidewalk outside her Los Angeles, apartment building. While the tabloids headlined the stories such as Eddie Murphy’s Drag Queen Murdered, and after countless claims from friends and colleagues that her death was a conspiracy, a cover-up by Eddie Murphy himself who hired an assassin to kill her to keep her mouth shut. A final autopsy report concluded that she died from severe head trauma and multiple fractions suffered during an accidental fall. The coroner's report stated that she was killed after being locked out of her 5th floor apartment; she tried to swing from the apartment’s roof to an open window using a towel. Outside her fifth floor window long fingernail marks were dug into the concrete walls trailing further down the building and on the sidewalk an imprint of her face make-up and lipstick embedded into the pavement, the fall induced so much force that her nasal bone was driven into her brain. In 2003, her brief encounter with infamy was ranked #67 on E! TV’s compilation of The Greatest Shocking Moments in Entertainment History.
