[edit] Essendon career
Tymms attended Melbourne Grammar and debuted with the Essendon Football Club in 1905. Born in Essendon, he played 3 games for the club.

After two seasons out of the VFL, he returned to the league by moving to University for the 1908 season, going on to play 60 games with the club until 1913.
[edit] Post-playing career
After the 1913 season Tymms retired to focus on his career as a doctor. He died in Armadale in 1949 at the age of 63.
