[edit] Semi-finals

[edit] Semi-final 1

  1. Allyson Felix, United States, 22.36 s
  2. Abi Oyepitan, Great Britain, 22.56 s
  3. Ivet Lalova, Bulgaria, 22.56 s SB
  4. Muna Lee, United States, 22.69 s
  5. Maryna Maydanova, Ukraine, 22.75 s
  6. Beverly McDonald, Jamaica, 23.02 s
  7. Christine Arron, France, 23.05 s
  8. Merlene Ottey, Slovenia, DNF

The first semi-final was a straightforward affair for Felix as after initially being closed down a little by Oyepitan she was never behind and eased through in first place. Muna Lee could quite cath up to those in front where Oyepitan also finished strongly to pip Lalova on the line for second. Ottey had pulled up injured about seventy metres into the race.

[edit] Semi-final 2

  1. Veronica Campbell, Jamaica, 22.13 s PB
  2. Aleen Bailey, Jamaica, 22.33 s PB
  3. Kim Gevaert, Belgium, 22.48 s NR
  4. Debbie Ferguson, Bahamas, 22.49 s SB
  5. Cydonie Mothersill, Cayman Islands, 22.76 s
  6. la Shauntea Moore, United States, 22.93 s
  7. Sylviane Felix, France, 22.99 s
  8. Olga Kaidantzi, Greece, 23.30 s

Campbell beat her own world leading time for 2004 after a good start she simply pulled away from the rest. Gevaert had a very quick start and after consolidating entering the straight ran on again to break the Belgian record. Bailey finished the strongest behind her compatriot with them both achieving personal bests and Ferguson, seasons best, whilst off the pace in fourth held off Mothersill who didn't get close to the national record she had set in round 1.
