Athletics at the 1978 All-Africa Games

The third All-Africa Games were held in July 1978 in Algiers, Algeria.
Three new events were added to the program. The mens Decathlon and 20 kilometre road walk and the womens Pentathlon. Three nations also won their first medals at these championships these being Tunisia, Sudan and Upper Volta.
