The men's 100 metres was a sprint athletics (track and field) event at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. It was held on 14 July 1900. 20 athletes from nine nations competed.

In the first round, there were six heats. The top two runners in each advanced to the semifinals.

The fastest of the preliminary heats featured two of the eventual medallists, one of whom tied the world record for the event.

The fifth heat was the only one that was not won by an American runner. Minahan was about half a metre behind Pritchard.

In an all-American heat, Burroughs defeated Boardman by about a metre. Slack finished third to become the only American runner to be eliminated in the first round.

There were three semifinals, each with four runners. The top runner in each of the semifinals advanced to the semifinal, while the second and third place runners competed in the repechage. The winner of the six-runner repechage advanced to the final as well.

Duffey dropped almost half a second from his preliminary heat time, while Rowley ran somewhat slower in his second race. He finish about a metre and a half behind the leader. Burroughs again defeated Boardman, eliminating Boardman from competition while remaining in contention in the repechage.

Tewksbury tied the 100 metres world record in this semifinal; he was the second runner to accomplish that at the Paris Games. Leiblee was inches behind him. There is some question as to whether Dörry started the race, but he did not finish it.

Jarvis was slower in the semifinal than he had been in the preliminary heats, where he tied the world record at 10.8 seconds. He still won, however, as McClain and Pritchard were relegated to the repechage and Minahan was eliminated.

The repechage was a very close race, with Rowley defeating Pritchard by a couple of inches. Rowley advanced to the final while Pritchard and the four Americans were eliminated.

Duffey led halfway through the race before pulling a muscle and withdrawing from the competition. Jarvis and Tewksbury, who had each tied the world record in the earlier races, finished first and second, with Rowley close behind.
