Athletic commission

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An organization which oversees and promotes athletics in a state. For example, the Nevada State Athletic Commission oversees boxing and mixed martial arts. Recently, the Nevada commission suspended Mike Tyson for life from fighting in the state of Nevada, (and effectively other states, such as New Jersey, who followed their lead) for biting his opponent, Evander Holyfield.

The commissions set rules for the events, and monitor conduct by fighters, promoters, and medical personnel affiliated with an event.
