Athletic Park was a famous ground used mostly for Rugby Matches in Wellington, New Zealand. It has now been demolished and replaced with a retirement village. It was famous for very steep stands which used to sway back and forth in the regular strong winds that Wellington is famous for. The stands also were unsafe as Wellington is very susceptible to earthquakes.
The ground has now been replace by Westpac Stadium, fondly referred to as "The Cake Tin" which resides closer to the city center.
The last rugby match played at Athletic Park was on October 10, 1999, between Wellington and Otago NPC teams, with Wellington winning 36-16.
